Thesis title: Media self-censorship practices: the role of self-censorship in shaping the behaviour of the press.

Ekaterina's PhD will examine self-censorship practices in print media. It will analyse the extent to which self-censorship is practiced, what encourages self-censorship among the print journalists, implications it has for news content, how this impacts or relates to freedom of expression and how does self-censorship manifests itself in the print media. Ekaterina's research supervisors are Professor Howard Tumber (School of Arts) and Professor Eugene McLaughlin (School of Social Sciences).

Before coming to City, Ekaterina has worked as a broadcast journalist in Russia. She holds a Bachelors in Arabic from Kazan State University as well as a Masters in International Journalism from Cardiff University.

Ekaterina's research interests include ethical issues in journalism, media freedom, media regulation.
