PhD Research Student

Jonathan Turner is a Research Student in the Centre for Health Informatics at City, University of London. He is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics and of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, He is a Chartered Scientist and is registered with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist. He holds a degree in Physics from University College Cardiff, a Master's degree in Computing Science from Birkbeck College and a Master's degree in Health Informatics from City University London (for which he was awarded the prize for best student in his year).

Jonathan worked as a physicist in the National Health Service for 20 years, primarily in the areas of radiation protection, diagnostic imaging and the management of data and records related to radiology and ophthalmology. He worked on the installation of the first hospital-wide PACS system in the UK. He has been a member of the UK Displays and Lighting Network and remains a member of the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise UK Technical Committee.

He is currently working towards completing of his PhD on re-use of clinical records to personalise future health risks. Jonathan is interested in the benefits that application of scientific knowledge and methods can bring through application to other areas such as medical diagnosis and clinical risk estimation.

Jonathan's photography and writing have appeared on several CD album covers and in the national press. He compiled and edited a feature-length documentary film which was shown at the Barbican Cinema in London in 2004 to a sell-out audience.
