Research Student

Jonathan is currently studying towards a PhD under the supervision of Dr George Buchanan. His work investigates how individuals devise and deploy resilient strategies to reduce risks and improve performance, primarily in the case of situated device usage in dynamic and challenging environments. His work has a particular focus on frontline healthcare and is sponsored by the EPSRC-funded CHI+MED project (www.chi-med.ac.uk) which seeks to improve the safety of interactive medical devices.

Prior to commencing his PhD studies, Jonathan obtained an MSc in Human Centred Systems with Distinction from City University London in 2011. Before this, he studied BSc Cognitive Science, graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Westminster, London, in 2010 (having transferred after completing two years of the BSc Psychology programme at the University of Hertfordshire).

Beyond resilience engineering, safety, human factors and error, Jonathan's additional research interests include mobile HCI, and novel/emerging user interface paradigms.
