The study

Greece like many countries has experienced great change in food supply, consumption patterns and health outcomes. Famous for its Mediterranean diet, it has actually undergone a modern nutrition transition, and now has high rates of overweight and obesity, and increased incidence of non-communicable, nutrition-related diseases. This study explores this reality and the current failure of food policy and nutrition-related initiatives to tackle problems. Its main purpose is to explore whether and how social marketing could contribute to this policy deficit and to changing Greek food behaviour.

Why it matters for food policy

It is an illustration of the search for large-scale solutions to food policy problems. Can social marketing components help deliver health, social and environmental outcomes?
