Main Project(s)

Reflectance photoplethysmography for noninvasive monitoring of tissue blood perfusion and oxygenation - Current

Spectrophotometric Techniques for the Assessment of Tissue Perfusion in Plastic Surgery

Bio

Tomas obtained a B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2010. After his undergraduate studies, he worked for one year as Medical Engineer for Tecnologie Sanitarie Spa. He later received an M.Sc from City University London in 2012. In the same year, he was awarded a doctoral studentship from City University London to continue his postgraduate studies.

Tomas is currently working towards his PhD for the development of methods to monitor blood perfusion and oxygenation in vivo by using photoplethysmography. The technologies and methods could find clinical and research applications as being inexpensive and noninvasive. Future developments may lead to the validation in clinical settings such as plastic surgery.

His main research interests are noninvasive optical techniques to monitor blood perfusion and oxygenation in vivo, such as photoplethysmography, pulse oximetry, NIRS, and laser Doppler flowmetry.
